It’s hard to get away from talk of the impending EU referendum on the 23rd June. To date, only two referendums covering the whole of the United Kingdom have ever been held; the first on membership of the European Economic Community in 1975 and the second on adopting the Alternative Vote System in the parliamentary elections in 2011. Of course, we also then had the Scottish referendum last September. According to the polls, the British public are currently pretty evenly split.

One point of note is that even if the UK did leave the EU, we would not be barred from the Eurovision song contest – participating countries only need to be part of the European Broadcasting Union. Always an opportunity to be awarded ‘nul points’ then!

As usual, we will be keeping an eagle eye on the financial implications of both the Leave and Remain camps. Do let us know if you have any questions or queries.

In the 2016 budget George Osborne announced the launch of the Lifetime ISA (LISA) due April 2017. Since then there has been a lot of discussion on the effect this could have on pensions, with some worrying that people will replace their pensions with the LISA.
